Congrats on the little one—seriously, what an adventure!
Have you ever heard of hospital newborn photography (aka Fresh 48 or 1st Look)? It’s just a quick photo session—about 30–60 minutes—capturing your baby’s first day or two, all in soft hospital light.

Basically, I pop in while you’re still in the hospital and snap your baby in their natural environment—bassinet, your arms, wherever feels comfortable to you. No fancy setups, just real moments… and yeah, that’s a fancy way of saying pajamas and messy hair are totally welcome.
You might be wondering—why go with me for Hospital Newborn Photography Jacksonville? I’ve been photographing newborn hospital sessions for over ten years and have worked in nearly every hospital across Northeast Florida. After a decade of bouncing between rooms and figuring out hospital lighting quirks, I’ve got this down to a science (and a little bit of improv). Hospitals aren’t studios—each room has different windows, angles, glare, you name it. But I come prepared: experienced in natural-light setups and strategic about light source position (like using 45° window angles to avoid weird shadows) The result? A beautiful, authentic gallery.

You don’t need to get ready. I handle the photos, you handle… everything else.
Natural light only. Harsh hospital fluorescents? No, thank you. I go full window light—no flash!
Memory insurance. Before you know it, your baby will likely be five pounds heavier and three inches longer. Or, like mine, ready to graduate high school! Let’s freeze that moment before it disappears.

Timing: Let me know when you’re in labor so I can start planning and then again once baby arrives. I aim for daylight sessions—9 AM to 5 PM—when the window light looks good.
Room setup: Open blinds, dim overhead lights, place bassinet near the window. Easy peasy.
What to wear: Think comfy and neutral—robes, soft pastels, nothing flashy or clashing.
Siblings: Love them, but they nap. We’ll plan around nap times so everyone’s in a good mood. No drama, no tears (hopefully).

Tiny toes, new hands, the umbilical clamp—because yes, you’ll actually want photos of that.
Shots of you holding baby—sleepy or alert, no judgement.
If siblings are around, we’ll catch the very first big-sibling glance. (No forced smiles. Sweet excitement or total disgust are totally perfect.)
Details like the hospital bracelet or little name board if you’ve got one.

If baby’s in NICU or someone’s having a rough day, we can always reschedule for an in-home shoot later. Flexibility is the name of the game.
If you like this vibe, we can also schedule a casual in-home newborn session a couple of weeks later—cozy time, no hospital gowns, just your family doing your thing.

Check out this article on why you might want to book a private photographer instead of using the one on call at the hospital.

This session was photographed at Baptist Medical Center South which is one of my favorite hospitals to do photos at because of their welcoming staff and big beautiful windows.

If you’re thinking “Yeah—I want hospital newborn photography in Jacksonville (no flash, please),” send me a note through my contact page. I’ll hold you a spot close to your due date, coordinate with the hospital, and plan sibling naps around the session. Between diaper changes and newborn feeds, this is one less thing you don’t have to stress about.
If you’re still reading…yes, I did use AI to write this post. Writing blogs used to be so simple. Pick some photos, narrow down to 1 keyword, write a few authentic paragraphs. Boom! Done! Now, it’s become so complicated to get search engines to “like” posts that blogs just aren’t fun to write anymore. So, while it’s slightly less authentic than I like to be, may not sound like the real Mary Huszcza of 8.08 Photography, and can be generic, you’d better bet I’ll be letting AI do this work for me so I can get back to what I love-photography and engaging with the incredible families I work with!
